Xiaomi recently invested in Chinese chip maker Leadcore, and already details of a 399 Yuan ($65) Xiaomi phone are doing the rounds!
When it comes to SoC processors, Chinese manufacturer Leadcore doesn’t have the same pull to it as the bigger names like Mediatek or Qualcomm, but that isn’t to say that they should be ruled out, especially after a healthy cash injection from Xiaomi!
Leadcore currently make a few processors which catch our eye, one being the rather powerful looking Leadcore LC1660 chip that is believed to live at the heart of a new generation of low-cost Xiaomi phones.
Gizchina News of the week
The LC1860 is built around a 28nm Cortex A7 architecture running at 2.0Ghz with a Mali T628 GPU. The Chip is designed for support for up to 2K LTE displays, and offers 1080p video capture at 60fps and built in 4G LTE, 3G and GSM support.
Of course the full potential of the processor isn’t likely to be realised in a $65 phone, even one from Xiaomi. In fact the the LC1860 is sounds like it might be over qualified for the next generation of low cost Mi phones which are rumoured to have only 1GB RAM and a 720p display.
Still a 1GB RAM, HD, LTE phone f0r 399 Yuan is nothing to be sniffed at and opens the door for more powerful low cost devices in the future.
boooooo! we want 2gb 720p devices!
h265 support…on a low end mobile phone, a lesson for the others…
wtf is an LTE display?
Clearly he meant LCD….
Those are very high specs to me, for such a little price! Hope to see this one in a near future!
This $ 65 phone is the one that Xiaomi must be planning for mass production..in order to capture low end of emerging markets…can sell by tens of millions.

if xiaomi and google join together then they can give free phones everyone, by generating revenue through ads. They can definitely can generate around 50$ per phone from advertisement.
Generating 50$ from ad revenue is much much harder than you think, especially in the developing markets. If they distribute for those who cant afford a 50$ phone, then there is high possibility that most of those owners will never use internet for its expense. Even if a few youngsters connect to internet then they would be clever enough never to click on any of the ads by google.
So giving away handsets for free is not practical, yes its practical for countries like US and Europe, where sometimes one ad can cost more than a dollar. But they already get smartphones for free in contract basis.

Better than MTK6592 on the paper.
Though I suppose for reaching 65$ goal even Xiaomi have to sacrifice display resolution (probably qHD), camera resolution (5MP) etc. No more than 1GB RAM. Maybe smaller display than Redmi 1s like 4.5 inch.
Real exciting possibility is what will do they in the future with Leadcore, if they really acquired them.
For example much better middle range SoCs than Mediatek’s and Qualcomm’s offers.

1GB ram for MIUI is not enough. Redmi 1S is the example.
my redmi1s has only 200mb (free)…

I want it! XD
I want it! XD
Based on some of what I’ve been reading and this article on the financial times, “chinese tech: selling to the next billion” I think Xiaomi is going continuously drop prices. I hope to see them succeed in switching their revenue structure from mainly hardware sales to sales through their own ecosystem. If they can make their ecosystem profitable without being irritatingly aggressive to the consumer, they should be able to generate enough cash and continue to lower the costs of their offerings.
I may have found my companies new business phones. At $65 a pop (even less with a corporate discount) we can afford to have people lose or damage them. The specs are more than capable for salesman.
